The B17 saddle, intended for the touring and trekking cyclist, has been our best selling model for over a century. First introduced in the 1890s, the B17 has survived virtually unchanged, and has firmly established itself as the saddle of choice for long distance cyclists. INTRODUCING THE B17 AND ITS LEGACY The influence of the B17 is seen across much of the Brooks range. The Flyer is derived from the same top as the B17, however it is complimented with a sprung frame to absorb the bumps along the road. Our Team Pro also emerged from the B17 family, it originated from the B17 Competition. The Flyer is the choice of leading cycle traveller Frank Van Rijn. The B17 is our flagship model, ideal for long distance sports touring, trekking and mtb use. It has been on the market for over 100 years, being featured in as early as the 1898 catalogue. Historically, Brooks Saddles were made with small rivets. Racers in the continental tours would have their Brooks Saddles re-finished with larger copper rivets to increase longevity, as they are gentler on the leather top. This practice was adopted by Brooks decades ago. A single badly-aimed hammer blow can irreparably damage the leather, so the utmost care must be taken during manufacture. Each copper rivet on all Special saddle models is carefully hand hammered by skilled craftsmen.
